There are four large islands and some smaller islands and islets that make up the archipelago of Kitsissunnguit in the southern part of Disko Bay. The islands consist of flat plateau basalts, with the exception of part of the south coast of Angissat. Here metamorphosed sediments can be found from the Cretaceous Period - i.e. deposits that have later been exposed to powerful temperature or pressure influences.
There is no doubt though that what makes the islands so spectacular and unique are the thousands of Arctic Terns who leave their mark on them.
